The Pedlar

During my tour of Arequipa, I was introduced to this gentleman who sits at the the first overview of the city that we visited. My guide told me that people come to touch him and have their pictures taken with him for luck. Just in case, I rubbed his tummy! She said he would often bring lots of things with him that is why I dubbed him the Pedlar and, indeed, I did see him in one of the storefronts on Merchant Street loaded down with all sorts of things. I took a picture of that one, too, but this one sits at the viewpoint where Misti, the sleeping giant is clearly visible, and I rubbed this one’s tummy so he gets the honor….. By the way Misti means sir or mister or señor depending upon interpretation and is a name of honor for this volcano. I had my picture taken with my new friend Chris in front of one of the volcanos beside him just on the back side. By the way, I keep running into Chris. This is a definite tourist route and the mini tours all go to the same places so you run into the same people all the time. href=”https://grammabarbiegoesglobal.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/20130515-190609.jpg”>20130515-190609.jpg

This is Chris, she lives in Everett, Wa…..we are doing a similar tour and met at breakfast when I was eavesdropping and went over and told her I was from Everett, too. We have been at the same. Spot twice since then and will probably run into each other again. I saw her guide when I was at the hot springs earlier.

The hands with nine fingers

The monkey also only has nine fingers. The theory is that there is nine months of no rain and only three months with rai. I this area. The nine fingers are the shamans way if asking the gods to help the during the dry months. When Maria Reiche arrived, she felt that she was destined to be there because she only had nine fingers. She lost one to an infection caused by a cactus needle getting stuck in her finger.
