The first evening

I arrived the afternoon of a celebration with a grand procession. The streets around my room were filled with people and it was apparent that this was no ordinary Saturday night.  I asked one of the many police officers what was happening.   With great enthusiasm he told me that it was the 75th anniversary of (something important that I didn’t fully understand).  So, instead of finding a restaurant to eat, I joined the crowd.  It was totally worth it, even though my supper experience later was less than stellar due to the crowds – another story…..  I will post pictures later today.  Now I am having breakfast and I need to figure out how to get to Lagos to go to school. The bus system seems to work well so that should be simple enough  (Did I just jinx myself??)

First stop in Malaga

After a long plane trip to Paris, I found myself in the most confusing and unorganized airport that I have ever had the pleasure of navigating.  Then a short hop to Malaga and a city bus trip to my Airbnb room.

Now I need to test that bed ….. I had one quick nap in the last 25 hours ….. and tomorrow I head to Agualivar to start the learning process.

Images on the trail down the back side of HuaynaPicchu

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAInstead of going back the way I came, I went down the back side of HuaynaPicchu to see the Gran Cavern….didn’t really think about how long that would make my last hike – it was close to 4.5 hours after already doing the Inca Trail.  It was easier, though, because it was at only around 7,000 feet above sea level and the back side of the mountain was not crowded so it was very peaceful.

Plaque stating the status of the site

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThese plaques were to be found all along the trail and throughout the park.  Also, those are the shoes that kept my feet in excellent shape throughout my days of strenuous hiking.  While others were taking off their shoes and massaging their feet, putting on moleskin, finding a place to sit whenever possible, or just complaining; Gramma Barbie was smiling!!!  The only day I had ANY difficulty with my feet was the half day when I wore my boots!
