This is one of the floating Islands that Lake Titicaca is famous for. Made of the reeds that grow in the lake, several families live on each island and work together under the guidance of a president.
Now, don’t get excited…..I know this picture is upside down! I just wanted you to see the shape of the lake that gave it it’s name. You probably have not chewed any coca leaves today so I will explain. The Qechuen people first saw this lake from an altitude of around 6000 meters – a great height without trees in the way to limit their vision. Now take a look at the small tag on body of water at what is now the top…..a rabbit perhaps? Then look at the larger body of water ‘pouncing” on that poor little rabbit…a puma perhaps? Titticaca means puma stone.
That is me at the top of Huaynapicchu…well 4 feet from the top at an excellent spot for photos. I went the rest of the way up to take pictures for others…holding a camera and an iPad sitting precariously on a rock that high up made me nervous..
It was a great hike and easy after the Inca Trail.

This is what the mountain I climbed this morning looked like as I stood in line at the entrance checkpoint. They only allow 200 people in twice a day. You check in and out.
I know I am behind in posting, but I don’t think the rocks have wifi so I probably won’t post again for four days……wish me luck!
In the summer there can be 200. There were only about 20 and a few other birds.
There were donkeys everywhere in the Colca Valley. We almost hit two that were on a corner of the road.
